I discovered coloring film after the IATSE union at KTLA Television went on strike in 1985. It was then that I started editing the news for KTLA’S NEWS AT TEN. I loved the quick pace and creative output making mini-movies for the newscast. But the union wasn’t going to be out for long, and I found myself learning more about Videotape Editing…. which opened my eyes to TELECINE COLOR AND FILM TRANSFER.

When I discovered this elusive career in a dark Color Bay in a Post Production House in Los Angeles….. I found my passion! Amidst the miles of cables, tape machines, waveform monitors and television monitors … a unique device called a “COLOR CORRECTOR” became my new best friend.

Take a look at some scenes before and after coloring. Notice how the colored scenes feel more alive and have more dimension. This is part of the coloring process – to be the additional lights and shadows for the Director of Photography.
